To my future clients,
My passion for pregnancy and childbirth was sparked during my undergraduate years when I watched the The Business of Being Born. This documentary opened my eyes to the many ways that birthing people can be left to feel vulnerable, unheard, or unsupported within our medical system.
From there I began a decade long studying of pregnancy and birth, both in the U.S. and around the world. What I found across the globe is that having a birth doulas isn't just about comfort (although an important component). Doulas have been proven to truly transform the birth experience. Research shows that doula support during labor can lower the risk of unplanned cesareans, reduce interventions such as induction, and increase satisfaction with the birth experience. Doulas also play a vital role in addressing health disparities that exist across race, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and other identities that impact the care people receive.
For me, birth work is personal and deeply connected to public health and social justice. I see each client as a chance to help shift the narrative - one pregnancy, one birth, one empowered experience at at a time.
It would be an honor to support you through this transition in your life in whatever ways you need.
Warmly,
Becca
